Adrenaline coursed through my body as the horn sounded. I
began to push the bobsleigh along with my teammates, going quicker and quicker
until the world was just a blur. We jumped in. I ducked down, leaning at every
turn until we hit the steepest part of the Olympic run. I held my breath, not daring
to speak. We were moving very fast when suddenly, everything went wrong.
Spencer missed the turn completely. I felt the impact as we hit the frozen wall
of the track. My helmet made an unnerving sound as it made contact with the
ice. Everything went black.

100 Word Challenge Week # 17
I
cycled to the curb and dismounted my bike. The tall grass hissed like a snake
as it blew in the wind. I peered up at the top, where the seeds jutted out like
spikes. Parting the grass, I stepped through, which I regretted instantly. Two
feet away, a giant pit of red swirled menacingly. Before yesterday, I would
have run away. But today, I knew I couldn’t. Fio was down there, somewhere, and
only I could get her out. Her clock of life was ticking, by trying to rescue
her, mine would tick too. So I gathered my wits, and jumped.

100 Word Challenge Week #16
Never in my
life did I imagine my artwork standing proudly on the school roof. The “Helping
Hand Hero” was merely me playing around with clay and plaster, so the fact that
it is now the mascot of Hayneywalk Secondary is so ludicrous, it feels like a
dream…except that everyone hates me for it. Other people worked for weeks on
their contest entries. I did mine in ten minutes. Finally, I resorted to
talking to my creation when the situation turned ugly. Kids think it has a
magical helping power, but I was blown away when it actually talked.

100 Word Challenge Week #14
“Hey…. I just returned from Africa yesterday and I have a
little gift for you.”
Alice couldn’t wait to introduce Amber to Stevey. He was the
funniest monkey in the world. As soon as Alice was awake, she Face Timed
everyone she knew, including Amber, to show her the surprise that was waiting
in the extravagant hotel lobby. Alice set the computer on the table in front of
Stevey. A scream of pure delight erupted from the speaker. Stevey angrily
pushed the laptop off the table.
“He hates screaming,” Alice winced.
She couldn’t blame Stevey; she appreciated her eardrums too.

Week #13
“Hey Ma,” I called while trotting into the kitchen, “Have
you seen my…”
I stopped in my tracks to ogle at the giant cat that was
slinking in the open front door. Mom came into the kitchen and glanced at the
television. The newscaster was ranting about a broken gate at the local zoo and
all of the animals that snuck out. I tapped Mom on the shoulder and pointed to
the bundle of orange and black fur. Because the tiger was blocking our escape,
we called the zoo and waited upstairs for them to come. Personally, I was
overjoyed when they arrived.
